Thank you for a Great Get Together 2020

July 1, 2020

Thanks to our organisers, The Great Get Together 2020 was – as in previous years – a real success. In a difficult time for us all, it was inspiring to see thousands of people from communities across the UK demonstrate the truth of Jo Cox’s words that ‘We have more in common than that which divides us’.

We saw a couple whose wedding had been cancelled ‘tie the knot’ in Llantwit Major. We saw the people of Birmingham spread their ‘power of community’ message across the city through mandalas made of yarn. We saw thousands of people take part in the international Run for Jo. And we saw hundreds of small acts of kindness: cups of tea shared with neighbours; communities reaching out to those most isolated; wishing trees with thoughts for a brighter post-covid future. Thanks to all of you who demonstrated the power of community.

But we don’t want to stop there. The past few months have shown the power of community that lies at the heart of neighbourhoods across the country. We want to continue to bring communities together all year round. As lockdown restrictions we know there are many challenges ahead, and that it is more important than ever for communities to stay connected.
