The Great Get Together (21-23 June 2024) is the UK’s annual celebration of everything that unites our communities, inspired by Jo’s belief that we have more in common than that which divides us. The need to celebrate unity and reject division is as relevant now as it was eight years ago. This June, on Jo’s birthday weekend, we hope her message will continue to inspire our communities to bring people together.
The Great Winter Get Together is a weekend of community events around the UK where people can find meaningful connection in January. The Great Winter Get Together is inspired by Jo Cox’s passion for strengthening communities and improving the UK’s response to the loneliness crisis.
Great Get Together events aim to:
- Bring people from different backgrounds together
- Create opportunities for meaningful social connection
- Celebrate what we have in common
Beyond that, these events come in all shapes and sizes and we encourage people to get creative! A group walk, a craft workshop or a street party are all examples of Great Get Togethers – the possibilities are endless.
The Great Get Together is organised by The Jo Cox Foundation, which is a registered charity (charity number 1170836).
From 2020 to 2023, the Great Get Together was made possible thanks to funding from Spirit of 2012, the London 2012 Olympics legacy funder.
We now hope to make the Great Get Together possible each year through a combination of corporate partnerships and community fundraising. If you’d be interested in being a partner, or would like to fundraise at your event and need support, please get in touch.
We’d love for you to fundraise! At The Jo Cox Foundation, we are a small charity and need your support to ensure we can continue to bring people together for years to come. Please sign up for email updates to be notified when we share more information about fundraising this June.
Of course! The most important thing is bringing people together, so if the official dates don’t work for your plans, feel free to choose another date. You can still register your event with us to appear on the map.
Not at all! The idea for The Great Get Together is about bringing communities together to celebrate what we have in common and to reject division. While it does have cross-party backing, it is completely outside of formal politics.
The best way of connecting with other organisers is through attending one of our free Great Get Together webinars. Sign up for email updates to be notified when webinar registration goes live as they sell out quickly.
We hope that hearing about other people’s triumphs and challenges along the way will support and inspire you to throw the best event possible.
Yes – of course. The most important thing is bringing people together!
- Of course. Many schools across the UK take part in the Great Get Together, sharing Jo’s story with students and bringing to life her message that we have more in common.
Closer to June, we will be launching school resources, containing a range of activities, lesson plans and ideas. Please sign up for email updates to be notified when the resources are launched.
