The Great Get Together is a weekend of community events around the UK that celebrate what unites us and reject division, inspired by Jo Cox’s words that ‘we have more in common than that which divides us.’ The celebration runs annually on the closest weekend to Jo Cox’s birthday on 22 June.
Loneliness was an issue of great importance to Jo and each year we also run the Great Winter Get Together in January to demonstrate the power of meaningful connection to reduce loneliness.
Anything can be a Great Get Together provided that it brings people together in a positive way to celebrate Jo Cox’s ‘more in common’ message. A coffee morning, a craft workshop or community food sharing can all be a Great Get Together – the possibilities are endless.
The Great Get Together is organised by The Jo Cox Foundation, which is a registered charity (charity number 1170836).
From 2020 to 2023, the Great Get Together has been made possible thanks to funding from Spirit of 2012, the London 2012 Olympics legacy funder.
Going forwards, we hope to make the Great Get Together possible each year through a combination of corporate partnerships and community fundraising. If you’d be interested in being a partner, please get in touch.
We’d love for you to fundraise! At the Jo Cox Foundation, we need your support to ensure we can continue to bring people together for years to come. Thank you.
Of course! The most important thing is bringing people together, so if the official dates don’t work for your plans, feel free to choose another date. You can still register your event with us to appear on the map.
Not at all! The idea for The Great Get Together is about bringing communities together to celebrate what we have in common and to reject division. While it does have cross-party backing and it is supported by some of the most prominent Remain and Brexit campaigners it is completely outside of formal politics.
The best way of connecting with other get together organisers is through attending one of our informal Great Plan Together sessions which will be advertised here on our website.
We hope that hearing about other people’s triumphs and challenges along the way will support and inspire you to throw the best Get Together possible.
Yes – of course. The most important thing is bringing people together!
We absolutely love schools getting involved! We have produced guidance to support schools with running a Great Get Together; including lesson/assembly plans and more general support on running a Great Get Together in school the Great Get Together. Sign up to receive yours.
We’d love that! Please register your event with us to have it added to our map. You can also share images and videos from the day with us by tagging us on social media. If you want to chat to us via email, please get in touch.
