The Great Get Together is a weekend of community events around the UK that celebrate what unites us and reject division, inspired by Jo Cox’s words that ‘we have more in common than that which divides us.’ The celebration runs annually on the closest weekend to Jo Cox’s birthday in June.
The Great Winter Get Together (12-15 January 2024) is a long weekend of community events around the UK where people can find meaningful connection. The Great Winter Get Together is inspired by Jo Cox’s passion for strengthening communities and improving the UK’s response to the loneliness crisis.
Great Winter Get Together events come in all shapes and sizes and are united by the fact that they are places where people can find connection. A coffee morning, a craft workshop or community food sharing can all be a Great Winter Get Together – the possibilities are endless.
The Great Get Together is organised by The Jo Cox Foundation, which is a registered charity (charity number 1170836).
From 2020 to 2023, the Great Get Together was made possible thanks to funding from Spirit of 2012, the London 2012 Olympics legacy funder.
We now hope to make the Great Get Together possible each year through a combination of corporate partnerships and community fundraising. If you’d be interested in being a partner, or would like to fundraise at your event and need support, please get in touch.
We’d love for you to fundraise! At The Jo Cox Foundation, we need your support to ensure we can continue to bring people together for years to come. Thank you.
Of course! The most important thing is bringing people together, so if the official dates don’t work for your plans, feel free to choose another date. You can still register your event with us to appear on the map.
Not at all! The idea for The Great Get Together is about bringing communities together to celebrate what we have in common and to reject division. While it does have cross-party backing, it is completely outside of formal politics.
The best way of connecting with other get together organisers is through attending one of our upcoming Great Winter Get Together webinars.
We hope that hearing about other people’s triumphs and challenges along the way will support and inspire you to throw the best event possible.
Yes – of course. The most important thing is bringing people together!
Of course! Young people are the loneliest age group in our society and schools play a vital role in providing them with meaningful connection. We have a range of activities, lesson plans and ideas for schools to use to take part in the Great Winter Get Together. Sign up to receive your school resource pack.
We’d love that! Please register your event with us to have it added to our map. You can also share images and videos from the day with us by tagging us on social media. If you want to chat to us via email, please get in touch.
