This month we held our More In Common Network: Share and Learn event.
In the More in Common Network, we know there is a real need to connect people who are involved within their communities with others who are doing similar work. We hoped that the Share and Learn event would give people an opportunity to learn about the community projects across the country that are bringing people together in a safe and accessible space, whilst facilitating a great networking opportunity.
It was also a chance for More In Common groups to share the amazing work they are doing and inspire others to join the Network. Jo Cox’s ‘more in common’ message helps us to remember that we all have shared human needs and we can work together to meet them. When people’s basic needs such as love, connection, understanding and safety are met, it can create strong communities.

The day was split up into a series of workshops, lightning talks and keynote speeches: all with the aim to inspire, share and learn.
We were really pleased that participants expressed that they were left feeling inspired – 75% of people asked to join a local More in Common group or were interested in starting one themselves! With lots of discussion and reflections on the day about Jo Cox MP, her life, and how we can continue to bring people together through her ‘More In Common’ message, this event sparked interest in our wider work at The Jo Cox Foundation.
Our More In Common Network members gave participants a great insight into their journeys and learning, including the highs and lows of community work. This really embodied how important and impactful sharing with others can be. It is essential that people know support is out there and they are not alone in the work they are doing.

The ‘visioning activity’ highlighted how passionate people are about inclusion and diversity of backgrounds within the More in Common Network. We learnt that a need to pool and share resources would be a great idea for the Network and this is something we are really excited to explore.
Lastly, a big thank you to all the people who attended in any capacity. For us the event created an opportunity for us to learn from the people who joined, to identify needs and aspirations, and to guide us in co-creating a Network that welcomes and works for all communities across the UK.
If you are thinking about getting involved with your community, see if there is a More In Common Network group near you or get in touch with us about starting your own.
