We are shocked and saddened about the suspected murder of former MP and Reform Spokesperson, Ann Widdecombe. Our thoughts have been and remain with her family, loved ones and colleagues.
No one in public life should have to fear for their safety. We completely understand the concern and fear that parliamentarians and all of those in political life may be feeling at this time. This will understandably be heightened by both the news that the investigation is now being led by counter terrorism police, and the overall climate of abuse and threats faced by those in public life.
We will continue to follow the advice and information provided by the police while the investigation is ongoing, including about the circumstances and motivations.
